ASCCI News:

Germany to host SADC Business forum

Germany and the embassies from the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) in that country have organised an Agricultural Business Conference to showcase potential investments in the sector to German investors.

In a statement made available to The Daily Times, the Malawi Embassy in Germany said the conference will present a rare opportunity for agriculture experts in governments and the private sector in the Sadc region to sell investment projects to German investors, with special focus in agriculture and agro-processing.

"The conference, which is an initiative of the Sadc Ambassadors Group to Germany has brought in powerful partners in the Germany–Africa economic relations which include the Southern Africa Initiative of German Business (Safri), the German-African Business Association (Afrika Verein) and the Hannover Chamber of Industry and Commerce which will host the conference to take place from 4th to 6th June, 2012.

"The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) will also participate in the conference and the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection has taken patronage of the event," reads the statement in part.

The forum, to be held in Hannover, will highlight Southern Africa as an ideal destination for business in the agro-industry sector and will focus on current agricultural developments in the region.

Topics scheduled to be addressed at the conference include mechanization, irrigation, seed multiplication and fertiliser production, pre-harvest and post-harvest management, agro processing, logistics and market access.

In addition, the forum is expected to provide opportunities for meetings with high-ranking representatives from politics and business.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Embassy in Germany is coordinating the participation of the Malawi delegation to the conference and has encouraged both public and private sector institutions interested in agriculture and related investments to participate in the conference.

The agriculture conference follows a successful Sadc Energy Conference organized by the Sadc Ambassadors with support from German business partners in 2008
